"Dance of the Peacock" | Featured Art for Pink Witches

  • The Urban Muse 82 Broadway Denville, New Jersey 07834 (map)

“Dance of the Peacock” Is a 24x36 Acrylic and Metallic Enamel painting. It was originally purchased by local art collectors, Jim and Elle McCarthy. They were great supporters and promoters in our local Art scene for years, owning Arts on Main and contributing to many local art events. Upon Jim’s passing in 2024, Elle returned the painting to me before she moved out of state and we agreed rather than re-selling it, we wanted to donate it to raising funds for a good cause.

Peacocks for Breast Cancer

Peacocks have always been a favorite animal of artist Caitlin Lodato. Her Aunt TT used to raise them on her farm and would allow Caitlin to collect fallen feathers whenever she would visit. The symbolism of the peacock has many meanings in different cultures, but Caitlin was originally drawn to painting it because it is a powerful sign of rejuvenation and renewal and a symbol of light and positivity. Believing in this symbolism, she created her first "Peacock for Breast Cancer” about 12 years ago in stained glass watercolor style and donated to help fundraise for the Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure event.  Her step-mother, a breast cancer survivor, was walking in the 60 mile event!

Since her initial fundraising for breast cancer, Caitlin’s mother, and sister-in-law have also both been diagnosed with breast cancer. Seeing the stages of what women go through with this disease and the reality of all the costs not covered by insurance, has made fundraising for this cause even more significant to the artist.
