Artist Statement

As a young art student I painted with watered down acrylic on canvas.

I began to see that my true passion was with watercolor as I found the translucent color, and the mysterious flowing quality of the medium fascinating.

The merging of color, the layers, the elusive qualities of watercolor are enticing.

They draw me in.

I partner with the watercolor, observing and incorporating the serendipitous, the surprises, the unexpected gifts.

Often, I follow the natural motion and flow of the color and guide the process from behind rather than force outcomes and pre-conceived ideas.  The adventure of watercolor and the process are my teachers.

This attitude allows for a less literal work along with a delightful experience of discovery.

I feel bonded to the process...watching, deciding, questioning, experimenting.
